Intro to My Bunion Surgery

Its Me Kimberly

Hello everyone. My name is Kim and I am 2 weeks away from having my bunion surgery. I am 37 years old with 3 boys and a husband. I work in Biotech field and work a 13 hour shift 3-4 days a week  and I am on my feet most of that time. I also work out about 6 days a week from home using various BeachBody work out programs (21 Day Fix, PIYO, P90x etc). My busy day keeps me on my feet and somedays they hurt more than others. I have bunions on both my feet but my right one is the killer! My left foot hurt more before but I was involved in a car accident in November 2013 and impacted my right bunion even more.

OUCH my Love and Hate Pose

Ever since then I have noticed how it has impacted my choice of shoes and my types of work out. No more heels or I can only wear them into a restaurant and back to the car :) Any soft leather shoe I have or a shoe that I have worn a lot has my bunion imprint in them. I also cannot run as much anymore. I used to run the same 5 races ranging from 5K to half marathon every year and 2014 I could not do any. When I do my PIYO (pilates and yoga) videos I noticed some moves hurt my foot when I have to apply pressure on them.

And My Ugly Feet

I did not want to have this surgery due to the time off my foot and I actually do like my job and want to go back to work. I wanted to loose all my weight before I did this. But it looks like the foot pain changed my priorities. So here I am 13 days away from surgery (Nov 19) and I am nervous as heck! I have been researching blogs to prepare myself and sometimes I get terrified hearing all the horror stories. But today one lady I read by the name of Julie gave me hope. I decided not to take any medical leave from work (my last surgery the paper work from the state was horrible). Part of my time off is holiday pay so I got away with that and I only work 3-4 days a week. I hope to return to work 2 weeks post surgery. My work is very good to me and I know they will be easy on me and give me light duty if needed. So thanks to Julie I decided to do a blog just like her and see if I can help someone one day and maybe get my frustrations out while I am home alone after surgery.

I have so many questions and probably am worrying about the wrong things, like what am I going to wear to work that is easy to get on and off since I work in a lab and have to dress in scrubs and then a lab gown when I get to work. So I have been shopping for jumpsuits that are wide legged so I can get clothes on easy with the ski boot looking shoe. Will I need help to shower in the morning? I always shower before work even if I shower at night it helps wake me up and feel fresh. Remember my husband works nights and I will have to get ready by myself but I do have a driver. (haha) Or the distance from the parking lot to my building is far and what if its raining or if I am on crutches will it be hard will my feet get cold (they get cold now with my shoes on), how can I keep them warm and covered. Will my foot look nasty in front of people? Will I last on a 13 hour shift? Is returning 2 weeks post surgery to soon even though my doctor currently says I can? And my biggest fear is gaining weight. Hopefully I don't but eventually I will get it off when I recover. Well I have blabbed on this blog a little to much and need to hush so send me any tips if you have any.

Thanks
